Descriptive card

The Koran. 327 fols of thin paper, 15 lines to the page. The script is a fine naskh with gold margins. The first four and last two pages are fully illuminated in gold and various colours. The fine Turkish binding is dark-red morocco, flapped, cut out and pointed in gold and colours. Copyist: al-Ḥājj al-Saiyid Muṣṭafā 'Izzat 'al-Imām al-Thānī', pupil of al-Ḥājj Muṣṭafā al-Wāṣif. Dated May 1848. This copy was written for Sultan 'Abd al-Majīd (reigned 1255-77/1839-61).
